Who is Yoga-Jo?

I am Josephine, 'Yoga-Jo' to my students. I have been teaching yoga for nearly a decade. I originally trained in the Sivananda style, but, like all good teachers, my style is now a unique mix which reflects who I am and what I believe in. The skills and wisdom I offer you today are born of ongoing training and also of rich experience - the best training of all!

My teaching style is informal and friendly, like me it is humorous and very compassionate. I can and do adapt my teaching to each individuals needs, personality and circumstance. My students have ranged from the young and fit to those who are unwell and barely mobile. All are brought to greater well-being and peace.

I really do live and breathe yoga, but that doesn't mean I'm a perfect human being, with a perfect body, living on celery sticks and air! I simply use yoga as a life-enhancement - and a stress-survival - tool. I am perhaps unusual in firmly believing that yoga must fit us, in the life we are living today, rather than we try to change to fit it.

Yoga brings new balance and awareness from the inside out, so over time, as you practice a little when you can, you will find that unhelpful patterns, stress, negative thinking and excess weight - slowly, melt away. Most importantly of all, you will find a new inner peace and a higher perspective on life which is supremely helpful in remaining centred through trials and upsets.

I am a creative temperament and before training to teach yoga I have lived a rich but somewhat scattered life, spanning many continents and experiences. I am no stranger to the blues, and I had an early life which left me with fundamental insecurities. These 'weaknesses' are precisely what yoga helps me with, I have become more stable and centred, as well as overcoming a weight problem and addictive tendencies. Yoga helps me to be my best self - a the fully functional and useful human being - and this is what it can do for you.

These days I am trained in therapeutic yoga and psycho-spiritual counselling as well as standard hatha yoga. Deep, healing meditation is a speciality of mine, and I also know that we don't need to do anything fancy - there is much that can be achieved with some simple deep breathing!. That said, I can also offer standard yoga postures to help you feel good and flexible in your body with no other agenda.
